In the three years between college and graduate school I've worked on numerous web and multimedia projects ranging from content-management systems to e-commerce portals to interactive CD-ROMs. My toolkit for web-development includes PHP, MySQL, XHTML, and CSS. To create interactive presentations I prefer using Macromedia Director.
The projects described below are representative of my technical skills and constitute a very small sample of what I've worked on.
myeFinity.com
Client: eFinity Inc; created in 2004
eFinity develops and distributes audio and video training and motivational tools for sales representatives. They wanted to take their web-presence to the next level and in February 2004 they brought me on board in order to build a new e-commerce web-portal that would allow subscribers to buy and download all the materials directly from the website. We had to launch the new site in October, and the web team was limited to a graphic designer (a.k.a. project manager), a translator and me. As I was the only technical person on the team, in addition to actually building the site my responsibilities ranged from evaluating and picking hardware and software for the servers to selecting and overseeing vendors for components we decided to integrate into the site and from creating the information architecture to choosing the best format that would allow to protect downloadable media.
eFinity is more than just a shopping site. It's a community space with over 2000 paid subscribers who get access to eFinity email, an integrated instant messenger client, audio downloads that are updated monthly, company updates, customizable RSS news feeds, personal photo albums and much more. The site is fully bilingual (English and Spanish), and personalization is an important component.
The site also includes a custom-built extensive administrative backend with customer management system, inventory control and content management systems, reports necessary for accounting and more.
Was our team successful? Definitely! As soon as we launched, monthly sales and subscriptions skyrocketed (400% increase) and have been rising steadily ever since.
VisualFlux.net
Client: VisualFlux Inc; created in 2003
VisualFlux felt it was time to update our website to better present the company and the services it provides. After throwing some ideas back and forth, we realized that what we really needed was a system to keep track of all the projects, clients, portfolio entries, and news that would also have a clean and visually appealing web frontend. VisualFlux site has an extensive database-driven custom-built backend system that allows changing the content of the website within minutes. On this project I was responsible for application development and HTML layout based on Photoshop comps provided by our designer.
Orlando: The Inside Guide
Client: Graft Inc; created in 2003
Graft Inc, an Orlando-based marketing company needed to create an interactive presentation for the United Kingdom's biggest tour operator, Thomson.co.uk. The idea was that the presentation would be distributed to tourists who visit Orlando area from the UK. Graft wanted the CD to contain information about area attractions. It had to be visually appealing and easy to use.
As a part of VisualFlux team, I was responsible for developing the presentation in Macromedia Director. We created a CD-ROM that showcased over 20 attractions organized into seven categories. Viewers can watch video clips for each of the parks and get admission information such as location, hours of operation and ticket prices. To facilitate managing vast amount of data on the CD-ROM I used a Microsoft Access database and V12 Xtra that allowed to make updates to the presentation very easily, without ever opening Director source files.
